Derric Harris

Shortly after 9/11, I was introduced to Vinyasa, specifically power yoga, by my yoga big sister and mentor, Alison Cramer.  I had dabbled in other forms of yoga, but was immediately hooked by this particular practice.  I loved/love the concepts of mindfully challenging my physical limits, of treading that fine line between ease and effort, of consciously freeing blockages so that spirit can soar, of using the breath as a vehicle of change, of being more aware and of learning to accept the NOW as a fully realized moment.

I bring to my teaching more than 20 years of professional theatre and dance experience; ranging from Broadway to regional to international.  The bulk of my international experiences occurred in Germany.  As a performer I played Jimmy in Dreamgirls at Theatre des Westens (Berlin), in Cats as Plato/McCavity and Tugger (Hamburg), Zebulon in Joseph und das…..(Essen), in Gaudi (Aachen) und Grease das Musical (Zurich and Dusseldorf).

My teaching is also heavily influenced by my favorite teachers and mentors: Alison Cramer, Sherman Morris, Leslie Kaminoff, Derek Beres……..and probably my greatest teacher, my son Aaron.

I encourage all that practice with me to show up, to be present, to celebrate each cycle of breath, to leave ego outside of the studio, to smile, and to honor self.  My intent is to create a space that empowers you to take the next step: joyfully, compassionately, lovingly.
